KPSU Magazine
Founder & Editor-in-Chief (2005-2009)
I founded KPSU Magazine as a volunteer mentor to spread awareness of the college station throughout Portland and bring cohesion to the local music scene.
KPSU Magazine was truly my baby. This quarterly publication of KPSU 1450 am/kpsu.org featured interviews with local and national musicians, band photography, interest pieces, and other assorted articles on Portland culture. As Editor-In-Chief, my role was wide-reaching: I created a strategic plan and concept for each issue, solicited and managed contributions, coordinated layouts, and collaborated with the printer to ensure a stellar final product.
I worked from the ground up on this volunteer project and amassed a team of contributing writers, designers, and photographers. My copywriting and editing skills ensured that each 20-65 page magazine was consistent and correct.
Once each physical issue was in place, I also established distribution guidelines and coordinated community partnerships. Booking “release shows” to celebrate each issue was a fun-yet-involved endeavor: my favorite was the station’s 15th anniversary and subsequent takeover of Pioneer Square. In the July heat, we released an extended magazine of over 60 pages and hosted a full day of diverse local music performances.
Sad note: The project was shelved in August 2009 due to university budget cuts.
