Life in a classroom was dramatic, stressful, and often very real. But so were moments of silliness and levity. I always found fun, even in challenges.

• Voice: Teenagers are a tough sell! And I can speak their language, bruh. I understand the unique needs of my audience and develop fresh approaches that fit.

• Creativity: Having free reign to create and innovate allowed me to design materials truly tailored to my audience. I brought myriad new traditions, events, and activities into the school and into my classroom. I thrive when able to think creatively.

• Humor: If you couldn’t laugh about the phallus drawn on your whiteboard before erasing and moving on, who even are you? I always knew how to keep it light, and shake off the small things.
